TAKKUNEN, William
William "Bill" Takkunen was born on September 17th 1915 in Orr, Minnesota to John and Minnie Takkunen.
He was inducted into the Army March 28th 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Orr, Minnesota.
Mr. Takkunen served as a Private First Class with Company D of the 350th Infantry Regiment in Rome-Arno, Northern Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy.
He was awarded the following:
- Combat Infantryman Badge,
- Distinguished Unit Citation,
- Bronze Star Medal,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- American Campaign Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- two overseas service bars.
Mr. Takkunen was discharged November 6th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he married Ruth Tyni.
He died on March 4th 1985 at the age of 69 in Cook, Minnesota. He is buried in Leiding Cemetery in Orr, Minnesota.
