William S. Lucas

William S. Lucas of Hibbing, Minnesota, entered the Army Air Corps on April 11, 1942.
He was a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and a pilot for P-47 fighter aircraft in the European Theater. He was reported Missing in Action on March 19, 1945 when the aircraft he was piloting crashed east of Mulheim, Germany while returning from an armed reconnaissance mission in the area east of the Rhine River.
He was presumed killed in action on March 20, 1946 by the War Department. His body was later recovered and returned to Hibbing, Minnesota for burial in 1950s.
