Wilho J. Porspakka of Embarrass, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on June 13, 1942.
He was a Private First Class and a pioneer and truck driver, serving in Casablanca and Tunisia in North Africa and at Sicily and Rome-Arno in the Italian campaign.
He says: "We worked on supplies on the way to Rome, dug up "dud" bombs and repaired roads and bridges." "I was sent home on rotation in the spring of 1945."
Mr. Porspakka received the: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with three bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal and four overseas service bars.
He was discharged on Sept. 30, 1945.
