M-Sgt. Wilho E. Gustafson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gust A. Gustafson of Cook, Minnesota, began service in February, 1943.
He served as flight chief with the veteran B-25 Mitchell bomber unit in the Mediterranean Theater for the Twelfth Army Air Force in Rome, Italy. His group, at the time of publication, held the record for bombing accuracy.
He was awarded the:
Legion of Merit for his “supreme leadership and resourcefulness,”
the Bronze Battle Star for his unit’s participation in the Rome-Arno phase of the Italian campaign, and the
Good Conduct Medal.
