Wendell V. Soderberg inducted into the Army on August 10, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Cook, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class and rifleman with Company A of the Seventh Infantry Regiment of the Third Infantry Division in the Rhineland campaign. He fought in battles in southern France and on the western border of Germany. He was wounded in battle from gunshots on March 14, 1945 and had to have his right leg amputated.
Mr. Soderberg was awarded the following: Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater ribbon, Combat Badge, World War II Victory Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation Badge.
He was honorably discharged January 26, 1946, at Percy Jones Hospital Center, Fort Custer, Michigan.
