BERGQUIST, Wayne Carl

Wayne Carl Bergquist was born on March 12th 1926 to Carl Paulson & Nellie Marie Alexandra [Saari] Bergquist in Duluth, Minnesota. He attended Lakewood High School.

Mr. Bergquist entered the U.S. Navy on June 9th 1944 during WWII, in Proctor, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota. He served aboard a sub-chaser (SC-677) in the South Pacific.

A DNT obit stated, "He served as a Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class aboard the USS SC 677 and USS YMS-164 in the Pacific Theater. Attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Assigned to sub chaser USS SC 677 which was a 110' wooden hull ship with a crew of eighteen. It was so small that he spent as much time under water as out during a storm. Transferred to mine sweeper USS YMS-164 and performed sub patrol, escort duty, and sea rescue."

Mate Bergquist was honorably discharged on June 8th 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After the war he returned home and married Patricia "Patty" Anna [Walker] and they started a family.

Mr. Bergquist died on December 21st 2013 at 87 years of age. He is buried at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown, Minnesota
