LAINE, Wayne August

Wayne August Laine was born on June 4th 1921 to Peter & Anna S [Waisanen] Laine in Orr, Minnesota.

Mr. Laine of Orr entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on May 23rd 1944 during WWII.

He was a commissioned 1st Lieutenant (1LT) and a pilot with the B-24 Liberator bombers in North Apennines and Po Valley, Italy and with the Air Combat Balkans in Rhineland and Central Europe.

LT Laine earned the following merits for his service:

  • Distinguished Flying Cross,
  • Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

He was honorably discharged on September 22nd 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.

Mr. Laine died on November 1st 1977 at 56 years of age. He is buried at Leiding Cemetery in Orr.
