BOLDSTRIDGE, Walter Syer

Walter Syer Boldstridge was born on April 21st 1919 to Joseph &   Boldstridge in Moose Lake, Minnesota.

Mr. Boldstridge entered the U.S. Naval Reserve on October 21st 1940 during WWII. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

In his words: "Volunteered for two-week duty to deliver USS YP to Brooklyn Navy Yard. One week underway we were told we would be in for one year. I didn't get back for five years."

He entered the combat area July 1941. Served aboard USS Montezuma and USS YO 111 in North Atlantic and Pacific. Participated in invasions of Philippines and Okinawa. He rose to the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate 1st Class (MOMM1c)

MOMM1c Boldstridge shared, "Was aboard YO 111 when sunk at Okinawa during a typhoon. Spent time on Okinawa as a survivor, then returned to States and was discharged November 25, 1945. Called back into service October 1950 and served on minesweeper USS Flicker (AMS 9)."

He also served aboard the USS Prairie (AD15)  He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars.

Mr. Boldstridge died on November 19th 2006.
