Walter L. Belschner
Mr. Belschner inducted into the Army on October 12, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a Technician Fourth Grade in Guadalcanal as a medical technician for 19 months helping Navy Seabees build a 14-ward hospital.
He was a male nurse giving emergency medical treatment, dressing wounds and other medical duties. During this period Jack Benny, Martha Tilton, Bob Hope, and Carole Lombard performed on the island. He landed in Guam and stayed for six months. Here, Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt visisted.
He received the following: Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and four overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on December 23, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
