Mr. Carlson entered the Army on March 28, 1941, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.
He served as a Corporal and antiaircraft artillery gun crewman with Battery D 184th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion in Alaska, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Stationed on Kodiak Island, Alaska, with 90mm guns protected the sea coast and harbors with Battery C of the 215th Regiment. The 215th was a Minnesota regiment. Battery C was an advance party detail. Was in Texas to attend Officer Training School, but sent to Battle of Bulge in Belgium instead. The Germans broke through the line but the infantry stopped them.
He was awarded the following: American Defense Service Medal with bronze star, American Theater Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and six overseas service bars.
Mr. Carlson was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
