Walter E. Haurunen of Virginia, Minnesota, was inducted into the Army on Feb. 1, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn.

He was a Technician 4th Grade and a cook in Headquarters Company at the Yokohama Base.

Mr. Haurunen was awarded the  Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Service Medal (Japan), Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1946 at Fort Sheridan, Ill.
