Mr. Cady served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served in campaigns on Iwo Jima, Saipan, Roi, Nemur, and Tinian.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He entered military service in September, 1943, and was trained at the Marine base in San Diego, California. He was attached to the 23rd Regiment, 4th Division. His unit was awarded a presidential citation for its activity on Saipan.

His rank was Private 1st Class.

He died at age 19, on February 26, 1945. He was killed in action on Iwo Jima.

Mr. Cady’s body was originally buried in Grave 1096, Row 22, Plot 1, Fourth Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. His remains were later disinterred and moved to Fort Snelling Cemetery, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mr. Cady was born on January 1, 1926, in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Cady. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1944.

He was decorated with the Purple Heart on April 12, 1945.
