Waino Osser Leinonen

LEINONEN, Waimo Osser

Waimo Osser Leinonen of Angora, Minnesota was inducted into the U.S.  Army in April, 1942.

He was a surgical technician with the Medical Detachment in the 498th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe and Rhineland. He was wounded in action on April 12, 1945, in the European Theater of Operations.  He rose to the rank of  Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Leinonen earned the following merits for his service:

  • Purple Heart,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars,
  • American Campaign Medal/  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal/

He was honorably discharged on November 21st 1945 at Camp Cooke, Calififornia.
