ALANDER, Voitto Bernard
Voitto Bernard "Bernie" Alander was born on November 22nd 1925 to John Capriel & JoHanna [Pannanen] in Cromwell, Minnesota.
Mr. Alander entered the Army on September 11th 1944 out of Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. Home at time of entry: Cromwell and Carlton, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class, infantryman, and truck driver with Company G of the 27th Infantry Regiment and 25th Division in the Pacific.
PFC Alander arrived in New Guinea in March and was sent by convoy to Leyte in the Philippines. Joined the 27th Infantry and took part in taking Balete Pass. Following the surrender of Japan, he was assigned to the occupation of Japanese home islands for one year.
PFC Alander was honorably discharged November 27th 1946. After the war, he returned home and married Elaine Catherine [Anderson] and they started a family.
Mr. Alander died on March 9th 1998 at the age of 72 years. He is buried at Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown, Minnesota.
