Virginia's husband and brother served in World War II.

Regarding the war, Mrs. Larson stated, "I was very sad and worried about everybody's safety and wanted it to end! The only good part was I met my future husband (Arthur) when he got his discharge."

When asked about how things changed during the war, Mrs. Larson said, "They were mostly depressed. But after the war, the streets were full of people cheering and celebrating that the war ended."
