BLAZEVIC, Victor Augustyn
Victor Augustyn Blazevic was born on May 23rd 1922, in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Victor Carl and Agnes Marion [Krzeminski] Blazevic. He graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1939.
Mr. Blazevic served in World War II and during the Cold War. He entered the Army Air Corps on June 12th 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.
He served as an airplane mechanic, and crew chief with the 20th and 18th Service Squadrons and 2118th Service Unit Aviation. He was stationed at Howard Field in Panama, the Galapagos Islands, and then Equador. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT). They were in charge of guarding the Panama Canal during the war.
SSGT Blazevic earned the following merits in WWII:
- Good Conduct Medal with clasp,
- American Theater Service Medal, -and-
- AAF Tech Badge.
He was honorably discharged on November 25th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After World War II Mr. Blazevic then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force Reserves. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (2LT) on March 8th 1948.
LT Blazevic married Mary Lou (Jones) on August 24th 1957 and they started a family. He served in the continental reserves until October 1975 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC).
Mr. Blazevic died on August 18th 2008 at the age of 86 years in Duluth, Minnesota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth.
