Veikko W. Lintula of Eveleth, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on June 23, 1944.
He was a technician fifth grade and a medium tank driver with Company C in the 714th Tank Battalion, 12th Armored "Hellcats," in Rhineland and Central Europe.
He and the 12th Armored spearheaded Patton's drive to the Rhine. "In space of one week took dozens of towns, captured 6,000 prisoners of war..."
Mr. Lintula received the: European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal and one overseas service bar.
He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
