Attended basic training at Camp Grant, Illinois, and winter training at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Spent 91 days on ships getting to New Guinea listening to "Tokyo Rose" on the radio tell what the Japanese were going to do next. Transported wounded and deceased soldiers.
He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Driver Badge, Mechanic Badge, and three overseas service bars.
Mr. Werner was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
