Thomas E. Backman
Mr. Backman entered the Marine Corps on October 28, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He served as a Private First Class and field radio operator with Assault Signal Company, 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division in San Diego, Hawaii, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Guam, and Okinawa.
One of six Backman boys who served in all four branches. Participated in action against the Japanese on Marshall Islands, Guam, and Okinawa. Was recalled to duty in the Korean War.
Mr. Backman was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945, at Oceanside, California.
