Terrill Jesse Welty

Terrill Jesse Welty served during World War II in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Army Air Forces.
He was assigned to the 337th Air Service Group and served in the 301st Fighter Squadron. Although trained to be a B-29 flight engineer, he was assigned to a P-47 fighter squadron.
His rank was Corporal.
Mr. Welty was born in 1927 to George and Villa Welty in Washburn, Wisconsin.

"I went to school to be a flight engineer on B-29. When I got to Okinawa they did not need us. So I was put into a fighter squadron of P-47s. I told them I had never seen one but having been the top of my class, was told I could adapt."
