Swanti J. Hakomaki of Gilbert, Minnesota, was inducted into the Army on February 11, 1941 at Fort Snelling, Minn.
He served as a Rifleman in Company C of the 6th Armored Infantry Battalion in Tunisia, North Africa; Naples-Foggia, Rome Arno, North Apennines and Po Valley, Italy. He was wounded in action March 30, 1943, in North Africa.
Mr. Hakomaki was awarded the: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with five bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal and five overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged August 19, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
