Sam Shanblott enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 11, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.
He served as a Technical Sergeant and aircraft maintenance technician with the 347th Bomb Squadron (M) of the 29th Bomb Group. His unit participated in Air Combat Balkans, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and Po Valley, Italy; Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He received the following: Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with nine battle stars (five silver, four bronze), World War II Victory Medal, and three overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on October 4, 1945 at Camp McCoy Wisconsin.
