Sam J. Liesmaki was inducted into the Army on March 22, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.

He served as a Private First Class and rifleman with the 49th Station Hospital in Rhineland. He was wounded in action on October 15, 1944, in the European Theater of Operation.

Mr,. Liesmaki was awarded the: Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, World War II Victory Medal  and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged December 27, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
