Russell J. Anderson - son of J. Alfred and Stella Anderson of Cook Minnesota, entered the army on April 2nd 1943.

He served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.

He earned the:

Combat Infantry Badge,
Purple Heart,
Bronze Star for Italian Campaign,
Division Blue Star Award,
Good Conduct Medal,
American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

After the war he served as a POW guard at Camp Polk, Louisiana and later as fire chief at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

He was discharged on Aug. 11 - 1952, with the rank of staff sergeant.
