Russell F. McDowell

Russell F. McDowell entered the Army on March 31, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.

He served as a Staff Sergeant and infantry squad leader with Company A of the 63rd Infantry Regiment and Sixth Infantry Division in Luzon and New Guinea. He was wounded in action on April 10, 1945, in the Central Pacific Theater.

Mr. McDowell was awarded the following: Silver Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, four overseas service bars, and Philippines Liberation Medal with one bronze star.

He was honorably discharged on August 16, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
