Runo A. Komanti

Runo A. Komanti entered the Navy on September 17, 1942.

He was a Seaman 1st Class and deck hand aboard the destroyer USS Carmick (DD 493) in the European Theater. His ship provided escort duty to convoys traveling from the United States to England, Ireland, and Scotland.

His ship sank a German U-boat 300 miles off of New York. His ship escorted mine sweepers across the English Channel on June 6, 1944, and provided cover fire for landing troops and protection for merchant ships and landing craft.

He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1944.
