Roy V. Peterson

Roy V. Peterson served in World War II and during the Cold War. He served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Peterson attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and was assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, where he tended severely wounded service members. He then studied at the Dental Tech School for twelve weeks and was assigned to the Marine Corps Training Center, where he worked in a dental clinic for two years. He then was then transferred to Camp Pendleton Marine Base in Oceanside, California, where he worked at the dental clinic for 11 months.

He was discharged on January 22, 1949.

“October 11, 1945, was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Center for boot camp and completed training just before Christmas.

“After ten days leave, returned to Great Lakes and was sent by troop train to San Diego, California, for Hospital Corps School. After school completed, started working at U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego. I was sent to work at a ward for severely wounded men. Worked there about a month, decided to sign up for Dental Tech School at the Naval Training Center in San Diego.

“After twelve weeks training, I was transferred to the Marine Corps Training Center working in a dental clinic. While there, I was assigned to dental surgery, dental prosthetics, and work with various doctors repairing and cleaning teeth. After approximately two years, transferred to Camp Pendleton Marine Base, Oceanside, California, for approximately eleven months, working at the dental clinic. From Camp Pendleton, was sent to San Diego Naval Base for discharge processing.

“I was honorably discharged on January 22, 1949.”
