Roy Rikala was inducted into the Army on September 20, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Mountain Iron, Minnesota.
He served as a Technician 5th Grade and bridge construction with the 239th Engineer Construction Battalion in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines (Liberation).
Mr. Rikala was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal three overseas service bars,and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star
He was honorably discharged on February 23, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
