He served as a Sergeant and aircraft sheet metal worker with the 268th Air Service Squadron of the 99th bomb group servicing B-17 bombers in Tunisia, North Africa. "Then on to Italy." He served with the 961st Air Engineer Squadron of the 535th Air Services Group in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Italy. "In service for three years and never had a furlough."
Mr. Stipe was awarded the following: Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars. World War II Victory Medal, and five overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
