Roland Henry Uhrbom was born on April 27th 1916 to John Henrik & Hildur Emilia [Jacobson] in Eveleth, Minnesota.
Mr. Uhrbom was inducted into the Army on April 17th 1941, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Eveleth, Minnesota.
He served with Company C of the 634th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland. He rose to the Staff Sergeant and Platoon Sergeant while ln the European Theater of Operation.
SGT Uhrbom was wounded in action three separate times; on November 18th 1944, January 15th 1945, and again on February 11th 1945; all in the European Theater of Operation. The last time resulting in a partial amputation leading to his discharge.
He was awarded the following honors:
- Silver Star Medal,
- Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- American Defense Service Medal,
- American Campaign Medal,
- the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- two overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on November 20th 1945, at McCloskey Army General Hospital, Temple, Texas.
