Roger Hugh Brindos was born in Duluth, Minnesota August 24, 1921 to Gordon O. and Nora Brindos on London Road.
He attended Denfeld High School where he was president of Denfeld Pyramid, in 1938-39. He later attended Duluth Junior College. He married Patricia Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick M. Sullivan of Proctor, Minnesota.
He enlisted in the Navy February 25, 1942 and was one of seven trainees selected for Marine corps Air Force.
In the book “The Seige of Rabaul: his air group, VMF-321, is pictured on page 16, Efate Island, Solomon Is. Group, December1943. He is probably in this picture but individuals are not identified.
Page 18 tells of his final flight on January 15, 1944 in a group of four, led by Captain Marion R. McCown Jr. Included in the group were, McCown, Lieutenant Robert See, Lieutenant R.W. Marshall and Lieutenant Roger Brindos. They were jumped by 42 Japanese Zeros and only Robert See escaped. Brindos was shot down and captured two days later.
On page 19, footnote #12 tells about his execution by the Japanese. This occurred on March 5, 1944, according to the listing in the back of the book. Note the name “Robert” appears in the footnote, but Roger is the correct name and appears in the official list of prisoners.
