Robert W. Johnson entered the Army Air Corps on April 1, 1943.
He served as a sergeant and aircraft radio repairman with the 1408th Army Air Forces Base Unit of the Air Transport Service in England and France.
In his own words, "I was stationed at a base in northeastern England which functioned to receive Norwegian soldiers who had escaped to Sweden and were flown from our ''secret'' base near Stockholm in unmarked transport planes. Was stationed at Orly airport, Paris, France for 11 months. Repaired radios in various types of planes, including General Eisenhower''s C-47."
He was honorably discharged on February 1, 1946.
