Robert Vincent Stolpe entered the Regular Navy on February 13, 1940.
Commissioned Lieutenant. He was serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Liscombe Bay when that vessel was torpedoed and sunk while participating in the capture of the Gilbert Islands in the Pacific Theater on November 24, 1943.
He was listed as missing in action, then declared killed in action as of November 25, 1944.
