Robert Sam Aluni
Mr. Aluni inducted into the U.S. Naval Reserve on July 26, 1943. Home at entry: Virginia, Minnesota.
He served as a Storekeeper Second Class in the European-African-Middle East and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters. He was wounded in action as a crew member aboard the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Rich (DE-695) when it was sunk in the English Channel during the 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy.
He returned to the United States and was assigned to commission an ammunition ship. In the Pacific, he participated in the Okinawa campaign and bombardment of Japan.
He received the following: Purple Heart, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Aluni was honorably discharged on May 4, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
