DILLON, Robert Rawn

Robert Rawn Dillon was born on April 13th 1923 to Clement Royal & Florence Maybelle [Rawn] Dillon in Virginia, Minnesota. The family later moved to Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Dillon entered the U.S. Army on February 19th 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

He served as an infantryman and motor transportation NCO with Head Quarters Battery, 246th Field Artillery Battalion in Central Pacific, Eastern Mandates, and Ryukyus. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Dillon earned the following merits for his service:

  • Bronze Star Medal,
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal,
  • Combat Infantryman Badge,  -and-
  • five overseas bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on December 19th 1943, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Therese [Hester] and they started a family.

Mr. Dillon died on February 5th 1967 at 46 years of age. He is buried in Duluth, Minnesota.
