"The objective of our battalion was to maintain telephone and telegraph repeater equipment on the line between Calcutta and Kunming. We were located at Chabua, Assam, India, near the border of Burma and the beginning of the 'Burma Road' along which supplies were being trucked for our troops in China. So it was important to maintain communications between the source of supplies and the users."
