Robert O. Black
Mr. Black served in WWII. He joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Kenneth M. Willet (D.E. 354). His rank was Third Class Petty Officer.
Mr. Black was born in 1924 in Virginia, Minnesota. He was the son of Frank and Eleanor Black. He graduated from high school in 1942.

“While on the ship, a Japanese plane flew over us. Our air radar was not working properly but we saw the plane, so our Commander decided to fire. The plane was hit multiple times with our weapons but our torpedo weapon hung up on us. It seemed to me that this pilot was on a suicide mission. I found out that he came from a bypassed base. His plane spiraled down into the ocean.”
