KOIVISTO Robert Norman
Robert Norman Koivisto was born on May 26th 1920 to Everett Seath & Aline Marie [Santa] Koivisto in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Koivisto enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 28th 1942 at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He served as a truck driver with the Service Company of the 377th Infantry Regiment in the German campaign. He was wounded in action on March 31st 1945, in the European Theater of Operation. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Koivisto earned the following merits for his service:
- Purple Heart,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star, -and-
- World War II Victory Medal.
He received a disability discharge in August 16th 1945, at the Baxter General Hospital in Spokane, Washington. After the war he returned home and married Rose Mary [Sersich] on May 25th 1946 and they started a family.
Mr. Koivisto died on January 6th 1987 at 66 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
