MANZ, Robert
Robert Manz was born on June 27th 1922 to Clarence & Bessie [Hall)] Manz in Duluth, Minnesota.
Mr. Manz of Duluth was inducted into the Army on October 13th 1942.
He was a Cook with Company D, 175th Battalion, Infantry RTC, serving in the Rome-Arno and North Apennines areas in Italy. He rose to the rank of Technician 5th Grade (TEC5).
TEC5 Manz earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars,
- American Campaign Medal,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- an overseas service bar.
He was honorably discharged on October 26th 1945 at Camp Hood, Texas.
After the war he returned home and married Lois May [Tizzard] and started a family.
TEC5 Manz returned to activeduty on January 1st 1955 with the Minnesota National Guard during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged again on September 21st 1956.
After his service he remained active in military affairs as a member of the Lakeview American Legion No. 342.
Mr. Manz died on August 5th 2008 at the age of 84 years. He is buried at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.
