“As a Chief Clerk or Administrative Specialist, my job was to verify the mechanics’ work on the various airplanes we serviced. The planes were C-47, C-45, AT-11, AT-6, B-25, A-26--no jets, as jets were unheard of at the time. The reports I had to file with Air Force Headquarters were twice a day, six days a week, or no pilots flew. At Maintenance Headquarters, we were the final verification to allow the planes to fly. At our base, the pilots were trained in different planes. I flew with some pilots to find out various problems, etc.”
