Robert G. Garland entered the Army on January 28, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minn. Home at entry: Brookston, Minnesota.
He served as a Technician 4th Grade, coxswain landing craftsman, and marine engineman with the 534th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in New Guinea, Luzon and the U.S. Trained in telephone maintenance.
After serving in the South Pacific, developed malaria several times during and after the war.
Mr. Garland was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisc.
