Richard "Dick" J. Kostamo was life long Duluth resident born in Duluth on May 21, 1924. After graduating from Central High School, he joined the Army.
He survived the third-wave landing at Normandy. He also served for 29 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
After his first wife Nancy Heinzen died he married Amy Thompson, whom he also survived.
He died on a Sunday in June, 2001.
