Second Lieutenant Richard A. Hanson, Gheen, Minnesota native and son of Mr. Oscar Hanson, enlisted in the armed services in January of 1939.

He served with the combat engineers on Okinawa for nine months and wore two battle stars on his service ribbon.

Richard was honorably discharged November 28, 1945 after nearly six years of service.
