KORPI, Reion John

Reino John Korpi was born on Janaury 26th 1918 to John A. & Anna [Torkkala] Korpi in Chisholm, Minnesota.

Mr. Korpi was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on March 29th 1942.

He was a radio operator and mechanic with the 46th TCS Army, 312th Bomber Group in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Western Pacific, Southern Philippines (Liberation), and Luzon. He rose to tte rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Korpi earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Distinguished Unit Citation,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,
  • Philippine Liberation medal with 1 bronze star,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • four overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on October 25th 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home.

Mr. Korpi died on May 9th 1967 at 49 years of age in Chisholm. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
