Raymond P. Ciagne

Raymond P. Ciagne of Eveleth, MN was inducted into the Army on May 29, 1943.

He was a private first class and an infantryman with the Cannon Company, 273rd Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, Cologne, Remagen and Leipzig.

The 69th Division was the first Allied unit to meet Soviet army troops at the Elbe River on April 25, 1945. He was taken as a prisoner of war in Germany on April 13 but was freed after one day.

He received the:

Combat Infantryman Badge,

Good Conduct Medal,

American Campaign Service Medal, and

European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal.

He was discharged on April 22, 1946.
