Raymond Mahala of Eveleth was inducted into the Army on May 4, 1942.
He was a Private First Class and light machine gunner with Company K, 87th Infantry Regiment. He served in the North Apennines and Po Valley in Italy, and in the Aleutians. He was wounded in action on June 5, 1945.
Mr. Mahala received the: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with a bronze battle star.
He was honorably discharged Oct. 16, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
