Raymond Leroy Walters served in World War II in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Navy. Just five days shy of his 18th birthday, Walters joined the Navy.
He was assigned to the USS New Orleans (CA-32). The USS New Orleans was a cruiser in the Pacific Fleet and was regularly attacked by Japanese kamikaze pilots.
Mr. Walters was discharged on June 9, 1946. His rank was Seaman 1st Class.
Mr. Walters received the National Defense Ribbon for his service in WWII.
He was born in 1926 to Ben and Miriam Walters in Willow River, Minnesota.
