LEONE, Raymond John
Raymond John Leone was born on April 4th 1923 to Phillip & Maria Addolorata [Manocchio] Leone in Duluth, Minnesota.
Mr. Leone entered in the U.S. Army on April 21st 1943, at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth.
He served with Troop A of the 38th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe Campaigns. He rose to the rank of Corporal (CPL).
CPL Leone earned the following merits for his service:
- Soldiers Medal,
- Distinguished Unit Award,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, -and-
- three overseas service bars.
He was honorably discharged on October 17th 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he retuned home and married Virginia Mary Ann [Verlenich] on May 6th 1946.
Mr. Leone died on September 3rd 2011 at 88 years of age in Carson City, Nevada.
