OLSON, Oscar
Oscar Olson was born on September 13th 1919 to Otto J. & Ingaberg "Berg" [Carlson] Olson in Lakewood Township, Minnesota.
Mr. Olson was inducted into the U.S. Army on November 5th 1942. He served as a military policeman with Company A, 32nd MP Detachment, 710th MP Battalion.
He says: "We landed at Oran, North Africa, in July 1943. I served as a guard there. I boarded the Liberty ship William Rawle in November 1943 with a load of 850 German POWs bound for the U.S. After a 30-day delay-enroute, we went to Camp Carson, Colorado, and guarded the POWs." He rose to the rank of a Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Olson earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal, American Campaign Service Medal, -and-
- World War II Victory Medal.
He was honorably discharged on November 28th 1945.
