Oscar James Blom
Mr. Blom inducted into the Marine Corps March 7, 1944. Home at entry: Alborn, Minnesota.
He served as a Corporal with Service Company of the Fifth Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. Participated in the assault landing on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945.
"This bloody battle lasted 36 days. Back to Hawaii. The A-bomb was dropped. Went to Japan on LST to occupy Kyushu in September instead of the November invasion. Conducted guard duty and construction work in Sasebo. Back to the USA May 1946."
Awarded: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one bronze battle star, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Medal (Japan).
Honorably discharged June 1, 1946, Great Lakes, Illinois.
